Ya Liu

Ya Liu is an American politician currently serving as a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, representing the 21st district since 2023. Born in Henan, China, she graduated from Nankai University with a degree in sociology before immigrating to the United States in 2003. Prior to her election to the state legislature, Liu served on the Cary Town Council from 2019 to 2023, becoming the first Asian American elected to the council. She is a member of the Chinese-American Friendship Association of North Carolina and has focused her legislative work on health, human services, and family policy.
