Yasushi Hioki

Yasushi Hioki is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Inabe City in Mie Prefecture. A graduate of Kyoto University, where he served as captain of the American football team, he previously worked at Sumitomo Corporation and held coaching positions at the University of Oklahoma and Minnesota State University. After returning to his family business, he entered politics and was elected Mayor of Daian Town in 1995. Following the merger of municipalities, he became the first Mayor of Inabe City in 2003 and has since been re-elected six times. His administration is noted for implementing a partnership oath system for same-sex couples in 2020.
