Yoshiki Nagatomo is a Japanese politician currently serving his sixth term as the Mayor of Chofu, Tokyo. Born in Niigata City in 1952, he graduated from Keio University's Faculty of Law. Before entering politics, he had a long career with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), during which he was stationed in France and Belgium, and also served as a part-time lecturer at Chuo University specializing in international relations. Nagatomo first entered the mayoral race in 2002, campaigning on a platform of ending the long-term incumbency of his predecessor, and has since been re-elected multiple times. During his tenure, he has focused on municipal administration, including implementing salary reductions for city officials to fund COVID-19 countermeasures.
