Akira Yoshii is a Japanese politician currently serving as a member of the House of Councillors, representing the Kyoto Prefecture constituency. Before his election to the national legislature in 2022, he served four terms as a member of the Kyoto City Council. Yoshii previously worked as a secretary to a member of the House of Representatives and has been affiliated with the Liberal Democratic Party throughout his political career. In November 2024, he was appointed as the Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in the second Ishiba Cabinet. His policy positions include support for constitutional reform, strengthening Japan's defense capabilities, and opposition to the introduction of selective separate surnames for married couples.
