Yuji Matsuo is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Hirado City in Nagasaki Prefecture. Born in 1975 in Kawachi-cho, Hirado, he graduated from the Faculty of Law at Kurume University in 1998. Following his graduation, he began a long career as a legislative aide, working in the offices of various national parliamentarians. Notably, he served as a secretary to Hidehisa Otsuji, a prominent member of the House of Councillors and former President of the House, eventually becoming his policy secretary. In 2025, Matsuo resigned from his secretarial position to run for the Hirado mayoral election as an independent candidate. He successfully won his first term in October 2025, defeating two other candidates.
