Akemi Fujita is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Kamo in Niigata Prefecture. A graduate of Waseda University, she previously worked as a tutor and cram school instructor before entering politics. Motivated by a desire to improve disability welfare services in her hometown, she was first elected to the Kamo City Council in 2015. In 2019, she was elected mayor, defeating the long-serving incumbent, and was re-elected unopposed in 2023. Her administration has focused on fiscal reform, including salary reductions for municipal officials and a review of city expenditures.
