Akihiko Iizawa is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Sunagawa, Hokkaido. Born in Sunagawa, he graduated from Hokkaido Sunagawa Minami High School and initially worked for the Sunagawa City Hall. He later entered local politics, serving four terms as a member of the Sunagawa City Council, where he held positions including Vice-Chair and Chair of the council. In 2023, he was elected unopposed as the Mayor of Sunagawa, assuming office in April of that year. Throughout his career, he has been affiliated with the Democratic Party and subsequently the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan.
