Before entering politics, he served as an official at the National Intelligence Service, including a tenure as the head of the personnel department. Since his first election in 2016, he has been a prominent figure within the Democratic Party of Korea, holding various leadership roles such as floor leader and acting party leader. Throughout his parliamentary career, he has focused on defense, intelligence, and land and transport policy, while also serving as the chair of the National Assembly Steering Committee.
