Hidenori Tsuruma is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Kushiro, Hokkaido. Born in 1974, he graduated from Hokkaido University and initially worked in the securities industry and various agricultural and civil engineering roles in Australia before returning to Japan. He served as a member of the Akan Town Council and later the Kushiro City Council for three terms. After an unsuccessful bid for the Hokkaido Prefectural Assembly in 2019 and a failed mayoral run in 2020, he was elected to the Hokkaido Prefectural Assembly in 2023. He resigned from the assembly in 2024 to successfully run for Mayor of Kushiro, assuming office later that year.
