Born in 1947, he began his career in the private sector before entering local politics, serving five terms as a member of the Fujinomiya City Council and three terms in the Shizuoka Prefectural Assembly. First elected mayor in 2011, he has since secured four consecutive terms. Throughout his tenure, Sudo has focused on infrastructure development, including the construction of a school lunch center, and has taken public stances on issues such as opposing the restart of the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Plant. He has also implemented salary reductions for city officials during the COVID-19 pandemic to manage local resources.
