Hideto Okamura is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Obu City in Aichi Prefecture. Born in Tsu, Mie Prefecture, he graduated from the Faculty of Law at Kyoto University in 1978 and began his career as a civil servant in the Aichi Prefectural Government. He later transitioned to the Obu City administration, serving as a deputy mayor before being elected mayor in 2016. Throughout his tenure, Okamura has focused on local welfare and economic development, including the implementation of a partnership and family-ship oath system for LGBT couples and the introduction of free school lunches for junior high school students. He has also been noted for his proactive response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which included the creation of a dedicated municipal relief fund and local business subsidies.
