杉尾秀哉

Hideya Sugio is a Japanese politician and former prominent television journalist currently serving as a member of the House of Councillors. Born in Fukuoka and raised in Hyogo, he graduated from the University of Tokyo before joining TBS, where he became a well-known news anchor and commentator, notably for the program 'JNN News no Mori.' He entered politics in 2016, winning a seat in the Nagano constituency as an opposition candidate. Sugio is affiliated with the Constitutional Democratic Party and holds progressive views, advocating for the protection of Article 9 of the Constitution, the introduction of selective separate surnames for married couples, and the legalization of same-sex marriage. He has also served in various leadership roles within his party, including as a member of the 'Next Cabinet.'
