Ichiro Uemura is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Higashikagawa City in Kagawa Prefecture. Born in 1980, he served in the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force before pursuing higher education at Chuo University. Following his graduation, he worked at Dentsu Public Relations and later served as a secretary to a member of the House of Councillors. Uemura was first elected mayor in 2019 and secured a second term in 2023. During his tenure, he has focused on local governance initiatives, including the implementation of a partnership oath system for same-sex couples in 2021.
