Ichita Yamamoto is the Governor of Gunma Prefecture, currently serving his second term after being elected in 2019 and re-elected in 2023. Before his governorship, he had a distinguished career as a member of the House of Councillors for four terms, during which he held several high-level positions, including Minister of State for Okinawa and Northern Territories Affairs, Science and Technology Policy, and Space Policy in the second Abe Cabinet. An alumnus of Chuo University and Georgetown University, Yamamoto previously worked at the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). As governor, he has focused on digital transformation, disaster prevention, and regional revitalization, notably promoting the 'Gunma Model' for digital governance and infrastructure development.
