Isamu Hagiwara is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Ryugasaki City in Ibaraki Prefecture. Born in Ryugasaki, he began his political career as a city council member in 2007 before serving four terms as a member of the Ibaraki Prefectural Assembly. He was elected mayor in December 2021, running on a platform focused on restoring public trust in the municipal government following a corruption scandal involving his predecessor's administration. Hagiwara previously worked as a secretary to a member of the House of Councillors and holds a degree from Chuo Gakuin University, as well as a graduate degree from Meiji University's School of Governance.
