Jagath Gunawardena is a retired senior officer of the Sri Lanka Army who served as the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lankan Army. Born in Colombo, he had a distinguished military career spanning several decades, including roles as the Commandant of the Volunteer Force, Commander of the Security Forces Headquarters in Wanni, and Master General of Ordnance. He was commissioned into the Sri Lanka Engineers in 1985 and was highly decorated for his service, receiving the Rana Sura Padakkama for gallantry and the Vishista Seva Vibhushanaya for distinguished service.
