Before his election to Congress, he served as a member of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors from 2020 to 2025 and worked for over a decade as the chief of staff to his predecessor, Gerry Connolly. A graduate of New York University, Walkinshaw is a pro-choice Democrat who advocates for federal worker protections, comprehensive immigration reform, and strategic international diplomacy while opposing the tariff and trade policies of the second Trump administration.
