Joe Neguse is an American politician and lawyer serving as the U.S. Representative for Colorado's 2nd congressional district since 2019. As the first Eritrean-American elected to Congress and Colorado's first Black member of Congress, he has risen to prominence in House Democratic leadership, currently serving as the House assistant Democratic leader. A graduate of the University of Colorado, Neguse previously served as a University of Colorado Regent and executive director of the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies. His legislative priorities include climate change mitigation, healthcare expansion, voting rights, and criminal justice reform.
