Junichi Kosuge is a Japanese politician and former diplomat currently serving as the Mayor of Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture. Born in 1952 in Joetsu, he graduated from the University of Tokyo and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1976. During his long diplomatic career, he served as Consul General in Frankfurt and Munich, and as Ambassador to Jordan and Hungary. Following his retirement from the diplomatic service, he entered local politics and was elected Mayor of Joetsu in October 2025, defeating the incumbent candidate.
