Koichiro Shimano is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Settsu in Osaka Prefecture. Born in Takatsuki, he graduated from Kyoto University with a degree in geography and later earned a master's degree from the Osaka University of Health and Sport Sciences. Before entering politics, he worked at The Daiwa Bank and served as a swimming instructor. Shimano began his political career as a member of the Settsu City Council, where he served for six terms and held the position of Council Chair. In September 2024, he was elected as the Mayor of Settsu as an independent candidate, succeeding the incumbent mayor.
