Kazuhisa Takeuchi is the Mayor of Kitakyushu, having assumed office in February 2023. Before his election, he served as a career bureaucrat in the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, where he specialized in social security, medical, and pension policy. He later transitioned to the private sector, working as a consultant for McKinsey & Company and Accenture, and held various academic positions including as a lecturer at the University of Tokyo and Keio University. Takeuchi is also known for his media appearances as a commentator and his interest in culinary arts, specifically miso soup preparation. He focuses on regional healthcare and welfare reform as central themes of his political career.
