Kazuo Satō

Kazuo Sato is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Yuzawa in Akita Prefecture. Born in Yuzawa in 1963, he graduated from Chuo University and began his career working in the finance division of the former Yuzawa City Hall. In 2019, he was appointed as Deputy Mayor by then-Mayor Toshio Suzuki. Following Suzuki's retirement, Sato ran as an independent candidate in the 2021 Yuzawa mayoral election, where he successfully campaigned on the platform of continuing and developing the policies of the previous administration. He was re-elected to a second term in 2025 without a vote.
