He first entered local politics in 2008, winning his first term as mayor. Over his tenure, he has focused on sustainable development, including the promotion of SDGs, the construction of the Odawara General Medical and Welfare Center, and the implementation of a partnership oath system for same-sex couples. After a brief hiatus following his defeat in 2020, he was re-elected as mayor in 2024, pledging to restore the city's administrative direction.
