Takeshi Sakamoto is a Japanese politician currently serving his fifth term as the Mayor of Itabashi Ward in Tokyo. Born in Narimasu, Itabashi, he holds a background in architectural engineering from Nihon University. Before entering politics, he worked at the architectural firm Nihon Sekkei and was involved in social welfare organizations. He was first elected to the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly in 2005 as a member of the Liberal Democratic Party before winning his first mayoral election in 2007. During his tenure, he has focused on urban branding, notably promoting Itabashi as a city of picture books, and has implemented significant reforms in childcare, education, and public facility management, including the modernization of local schools and the establishment of comprehensive child support centers.
