Makoto Sasaki is a Japanese politician currently serving as a member of the House of Representatives, representing the Tohoku proportional representation block. Born in 1996 in Miyako, Iwate, she previously served as a member of the Miyako City Council. Sasaki is a graduate of the Gunma Prefectural Women's University, where she studied international communication. Before entering national politics, she worked for the non-profit organization Plus Arts and the Miyako Tourism and Culture Exchange Association. Having survived the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and later overcoming a diagnosis of malignant lymphoma, she is known for her resilience and dedication to community service. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2026 as a candidate for the Democratic Party for the People.
