Maolíosa McHugh is an Irish Sinn Féin politician who has served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for West Tyrone since May 2019. Born in Mournebeg, County Tyrone, he spent nearly 33 years working as a lecturer at the North West Regional College before entering politics. He previously served as a local councillor and as the Mayor of Derry and Strabane from 2017 to 2018. Known as a dedicated republican, McHugh has announced that he will not contest the next Northern Ireland Assembly election.
