María José Catalá is a Spanish politician currently serving as the Mayor of Valencia, a position she assumed in June 2023. A member of the People's Party, she previously served as the Mayor of Torrent from 2007 to 2012, becoming the first woman to hold that office. Her extensive political career includes serving as a member of the Congress of Deputies in 2008, Minister of Education in the Generalitat Valenciana from 2012 to 2015, and a member of the Corts Valencianes. She holds a law degree and a doctorate from CEU Cardinal Herrera University.
