Masatomi Asano is a Japanese politician and lawyer currently serving as the Mayor of Oyama in Tochigi Prefecture. A graduate of Waseda University's Faculty of Law, he practiced as a lawyer and was active in environmental advocacy, notably leading efforts to register the Watarase Retarding Basin under the Ramsar Convention. He entered politics following his involvement in local civic movements and was elected mayor in 2020 after defeating the incumbent. As mayor, he has focused on administrative reform and fiscal management, while maintaining an independent stance on national policy issues.
