Michael Bennet is an American politician and attorney serving as the senior United States senator from Colorado, a position he has held since 2009. Before his appointment to the Senate, he served as the superintendent of Denver Public Schools and as chief of staff to Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper. A member of the Democratic Party, Bennet has focused on education policy, economic development, and conservation throughout his career. He unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination for president in the 2020 election.
