Mika Yokota is a Japanese politician and former bureaucrat currently serving as the 21st Governor of Hiroshima Prefecture. Born in Kure, Hiroshima, she spent part of her childhood in Brazil, an experience that inspired her interest in public service and law. After graduating from the University of Tokyo, she had a long career at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, later serving as Vice Governor of Toyama Prefecture and as a Cabinet Councilor. Elected in November 2025, she became the first female governor in the history of Hiroshima Prefecture and the Chugoku-Shikoku region. Yokota emphasizes the importance of addressing population decline and promoting gender equality by tackling unconscious bias in society.
