Minoru Hatakeyama is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Ageo in Saitama Prefecture. Born in Rikuzentakata, Iwate Prefecture, he graduated from the Chiba Institute of Technology and previously worked at Toyo Shin-dosho. His political career began with three terms as an Ageo City Council member, followed by three terms as a member of the Saitama Prefectural Assembly. He was first elected mayor in 2017 following a municipal corruption scandal and has since secured re-election, most recently in 2025. During his tenure, he has implemented measures such as the introduction of a partnership oath system for LGBT couples and salary reductions for municipal officials to fund COVID-19 countermeasures.
