Kyoko Murata is a Japanese politician serving as a member of the House of Councillors. Born in Kagoshima, she graduated from the University of Tokyo and Waseda University before working as a secretary to lawmaker Minoru Yanagida for a decade. She was elected to the House of Councillors in 2022 as a candidate supported by the Japan Organization of Metal and Machinery Workers (Kikan Roren). Politically, she supports constitutional reform, including adding a provision for the Self-Defense Forces, and advocates for the legalization of same-sex marriage and selective separate surnames for married couples. She also supports the restart of nuclear power plants to ensure energy stability.
