
Peter Harder

Peter Harder is a Canadian senator and former senior civil servant. Appointed to the Senate in 2016 as the first nominee of the Independent Advisory Board for Senate Appointments, he served as the inaugural Representative of the Government in the Senate until 2019. Before his parliamentary career, Harder held high-ranking positions in the federal public service, including deputy minister roles across several departments such as Citizenship and Immigration, Industry Canada, and Foreign Affairs and International Trade. He is a member of the Progressive Senate Group and has been a vocal advocate for non-partisan reform within the upper house.
