Pierre Kompany is a Belgian politician and the first Congolese mayor in Belgium. Born in the Belgian Congo in 1947, he arrived in Belgium in 1975 as a political refugee after being interned for opposing the regime of Mobutu Sese Seko. Before entering politics, he worked as a taxi driver while earning a degree in mechanical engineering. He served as the mayor of Ganshoren starting in 2018 and was a member of the Parliament of the Brussels-Capital Region from 2014 to 2024. He is currently a member of the Chamber of Representatives and is widely known as the father of professional footballers Vincent and François Kompany.
