Sabina Matos is an American politician serving as the 70th Lieutenant Governor of Rhode Island since 2021. Born in the Dominican Republic, she immigrated to the United States in 1994 and later became a U.S. citizen. Before her current role, she served on the Providence City Council, where she was elected as council president. Matos is the first Dominican American elected to statewide office in the United States and the first Black statewide officeholder in Rhode Island. She is a member of the Democratic Party and resides in Providence.
