Shinji Sasamoto is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Kazuno City in Akita Prefecture. Born in Onomichi, Hiroshima, he graduated from the Tokyo Institute of Technology with a master's degree in chemical engineering and spent seven years working for Toyo Engineering Corporation, with extensive experience abroad in Venezuela, the United States, and Indonesia. After moving to Kazuno to study regional revitalization, he was elected to the Kazuno City Council in 2021. In 2025, he was elected mayor, becoming the youngest person to hold the office since the city's incorporation and the first mayor from outside the region.
