Shintaro Maeda is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture. Born in 1976, he graduated from Nagasaki University before working as a secretary to former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. He began his political career as a member of the Shimonoseki City Council in 2011. Since his election as mayor in 2017, he has focused on urban development projects, including the construction of a new city hall, the promotion of local tourism, and the implementation of public transportation improvements. Maeda is a member of the Liberal Democratic Party and has been re-elected multiple times, most recently in 2025.
