A member of the Conservative Party, he held numerous high-profile cabinet positions between 2018 and 2024, including Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, and Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Before entering politics, he worked as a solicitor in the financial sector. Following the 2024 general election, he has served in opposition roles, including as Chair of the Finance Committee.
