Takaaki Sakai is a Japanese politician and lawyer currently serving as the Mayor of Tambasasayama in Hyogo Prefecture. After graduating from Chuo University and passing the bar exam, he began his career as a lawyer. He served three terms as a member of the Hyogo Prefectural Assembly before being elected Mayor of Sasayama (now Tambasasayama) in 2007. He has since been re-elected multiple times, notably overseeing the city's name change to Tambasasayama in 2019 following a successful local referendum. He is currently serving his sixth term in office.
