Takao Shiraiwa is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Nanyo City in Yamagata Prefecture. Born in Nanyo, he graduated from Tohoku Gakuin University and spent over two decades working in tax accounting and retail before entering politics. He was elected to the Nanyo City Council in 2012 and subsequently won the mayoral election in 2014. During his tenure, he has been noted for his efforts to promote local tourism, including the launch of a unique project to highlight the city's ramen culture. He has served three terms as mayor and has announced his intention not to seek re-election in the next mayoral race.
