神谷俊一

Shunichi Kamiya is a Japanese politician and former bureaucrat currently serving as the Mayor of Chiba. Born in Aichi Prefecture, he graduated from the University of Tokyo and began his career in the Ministry of Home Affairs in 1996. Throughout his bureaucratic career, he held various positions, including roles in the Saga Prefectural Government, the Japanese Embassy in Jordan, and as Deputy Mayor of both Saga and Chiba cities. Elected as Mayor of Chiba in 2021 and re-elected in 2025, Kamiya focuses on crisis management, disaster prevention, and child welfare. He has actively promoted urban development, including the successful attraction of international events like the X Games and major music festivals, while also prioritizing decarbonization initiatives to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions for city facilities.
