Prior to his mayoral career, he served as a secretary to a member of the House of Councillors and held leadership roles in local civic organizations. First elected mayor in 2008, he has since secured multiple re-elections, including several uncontested victories. In 2024, he faced public scrutiny regarding potential violations of the Public Offices Election Act following reports of food distribution at a post-election gathering, an incident for which he has expressed a willingness to cooperate with investigations.
