Yaichi Nakahara is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Niigata, a position he has held since 2018. Before his tenure as mayor, he served as a member of the House of Councillors, where he held the role of Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. His earlier career includes four terms as a member of the Niigata Prefectural Assembly. Throughout his political career, Nakahara has focused on local governance and regional development, including the implementation of a partnership oath system for same-sex couples in Niigata City. He is a graduate of Meiji University and previously worked as a secretary to a Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
