Yoshihiko Fukuda is a Japanese politician currently serving his fifth term as the Mayor of Iwakuni, Yamaguchi Prefecture. Born in Iwakuni, he graduated from Hosei University and began his career as a secretary to a member of the House of Representatives. He served as a member of the Iwakuni City Council and the Yamaguchi Prefectural Assembly before being elected to the House of Representatives in 2005. In 2008, he resigned from his national parliamentary seat to successfully run for Mayor of Iwakuni. Throughout his tenure, he has navigated complex local issues, including the management of the U.S. Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni and the deployment of Osprey aircraft, often balancing local concerns with national security policy.
